How Do I Find My Applecare Plan?

Before you proceed to cancel your AppleCare plan, you need to see what kind of plan or AppleCare service agreement you have.

There are three different kinds of coverage plans that Apple provides. All three of these are called AppleCare plans, even though each is another AppleCare product.

Limited Warranty AppleCare

The first kind of plan is a limited warranty, which is called “AppleCare.”

This coverage is already provided by default whenever you purchase a new device. A primary manufacturer’s warranty lasts for one year and does not provide coverage for accidents.

Since you did not pay for Applecare limited warranty, there is no need to cancel it, and it expires automatically in one year.

AppleCare Protection Plan

The same plan as a limited warranty, the AppleCare protection plan extends the subscription on manufacturer’s warranty by two or three years.

This plan was the first extended coverage service by Apple. It is no longer offered in the United States anymore, although you may still see it in other countries.

AppleCare+

AppleCare+is the top level of services by Apple that you can pay for.

It includes up to two cases of accidental damage protection and two cases of theft and loss coverage every 12 months.

Since this is the plan you probably spent extra on, it will be used interchangeably with AppleCare from now on.

Can I Get a Refund On My AppleCare?

Now the big question on your mind is – can I get a refund on my AppleCare subscription?

The short answer is yes – depending on several factors.

Be warned; you may not get a full refund – the amount you get refunded depends on the service already provided by Apply to you, as well as your method of payment.

How Much Will AppleCare Refund Me?

There are three possibilities to consider:

  • You want to cancel your monthly subscription plan
  • You paid upfront for a plan and wish to cancel within 30 days of your purchase
  • You paid upfront for the entire plan but cancel more than 30 days after your purchase

Let us show you how to get refunded in each scenario.

How do I cancel my monthly AppleCare?

If you have a monthly AppleCare plan, don’t worry – canceling a monthly plan is very easy!

As you did not pay anything upfront while purchasing your monthly plan, there is no refund. You will be billed for the remaining period.

If you change your mind, remember to cancel your monthly AppleCare plan within 30 days – otherwise, you’ll get billed for 60 days!

What If I Paid Upfront?

Things are much simpler if you paid in full for your AppleCare plan.

You can usually get a full refund if you pay the total amount, provided if you cancel your plan within 30 days of purchase.

If you cancel your plan more than 30 days later, you will get a prorated refund for the remaining period. You will also be billed for any service already provided to you.

How Much Do I Have To Pay?

Say you purchased a new iPhone 12 Pro and paid an extra $199 for an additional three years of AppleCare+.

Now let’s say that you want to sell your phone after one year. How much amount will you be refunded?

Generally, you get a refund based on the percentage of unexpired AppleCare coverage minus the value of the service already provided.

So you won’t get a full refund, but a full refund minus one year. In this case, the additional two years will be prorated as 66% of $199, which is $131.34.

You will be charged a cancellation fee. This will either be 1o% of the pro-rated amount ($13.2, in our case) or $25, depending on which is less.

In the end, the amount refunded to you will be $118.14.

Can I Cancel AppleCare After Repair?

Yes, but again – it depends.

Usually, you get a refund minus the value of any service provided. The “value of any service provided,” in this case, is the cost of repair.

If your prorated amount on your iPhone 12 Pro is $118.14, Apple will deduct the cost of repairs from the final amount.

In most cases, this means you will be refunded $0 after the repair.

Conclusion

There are many reasons you may wish to cancel AppleCare.

No matter what the case, make sure you know first what plan you have bought and whether you paid in full or monthly.

Always have your serial number and AppleCare agreement number ready. Calculate your prorated refund costs upfront and decide whether you will cancel using an Apple device or by fax.

There is no need to lose money if you decide to cancel your AppleCare plan. Take action today and get the refund you deserve!
